The Opportunity:

We, at Flywire, are seeking a Tax Director to be responsible for Flywire’s overall global tax planning and compliance.  The individual will have the requisite skill set to advise on strategic tax policy while ensuring compliance with tax accounting and global tax filing requirements pertaining to direct and indirect taxes.

The Tax Director will be expected to integrate into the business, developing relationships with business leads throughout the organization to proactively identify and advise on geographic business expansion and new product offerings.

  • A generalist with the ability to identify and respond to tax issues before they become exposures.

  • Monitor new and changing legislation focusing on those impacting Flywire’s business.

  • Experienced in international/cross border tax matters, including transfer pricing concept, to compliment a strong US, State & Local background.

  • Experience dealing with direct and indirect tax matters.

  • Develop and grow Flywire’s tax function recommending the right balance between in-house and outsourced advisory and compliance services.

  • Adept at working with and managing outside advisor / tax return preparer network.

  • Maintain and oversee network of external advisors for both research/planning and compliance activities.

  • Familiarity with tax accounting matters ultimately taking on full responsibility for tax provisions.

  • Assist with tax audits, info requests with the ultimate objective of taking over management of tax audits and responding to information requests.

  • Communicate risk assessment to management – translate hard-to-understand technical rules to easy-to-understand assessments and actionable recommendations.

  • Document tax policies and positions.

  • Time split will approximate 60% compliance / 40% planning.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years public accounting and/or industry experience.

  • Tax return preparation experience with all return types including US Federal Consolidated, State and Local, Sales & Use Tax, information returns, foreign tax filings including indirect taxes (VAT, GST, Consumption).

  • Experience with tax audits, interacting with auditors and responding to their inquiries and document requests.  Assist in developing audit strategies and updating management on the status of audits and exposure items.

  • Experience directing outside advisors (accounting firms, law firms) with research and planning assignments ensuring a complete document that succinctly provides the required advice and managing fees.

  • Self awareness to know what you don’t know and to be comfortable asking for assistance – internally or through our network of outside advisors.

  • CPA preferred but not required.

Our Hiring Process:

We are excited to get to know you! Throughout our process you can expect 4-5 rounds of interviews with different FlyMates including the Hiring Manager, Peers on the team, the VP of the department, and a homework assignment (it is not that bad!). Your TA Partner will walk you through the steps and be your “go-to” person for any questions.
