Before Flywire, finance was heavily reliant on travel agent intermediaries to provide card details to be able to take payments. Merchant fees made it expensive for Made for Spain & Portugal to process the payments, and for clients, international transaction and FX fees tacked on costs they could not see until they got their card statement, causing complaints and, sometimes, chargebacks.
